Stevens Irish Bouzoukis Munich
We like to build irish bouzoukis
We started building Celtic instruments, such as bouzoukis, mandolas, and mandolins, in 1992.
Since then, we’ve built many instruments for well-known artists like Andy Irvine and Oliver Pade of the band Faun.
We’ve also built many special cisters, with 8, 9, 10, or 12 strings, mandocellos and bass bouzoukis. We love challenges, and most of all, we love the sound of these instruments. We have built our instruments under the label “Stevens Custom Guitars”, also many other instruments like acoustic guitars, ukuleles and many others.
In 2026, we founded a new label called “Stevens Irish Bouzoukis”. In our new company, we are specialized in Celtic instruments, and we do our best to build instruments of the highest quality.

Pickup
We prefer the MISI system Trio. It is an active system, but without battery. At the outputjack inside the instrument there is a preamp and a kind of accumulator (condenser). So you could charge it from outside with a power supply (included) for 2 minutes, then it works for 16 hours.
The systems are manufactured by a company in the USA. The pickup under the bridge saddle is from L.R. Baggs. We have had excellent experiences with it.

About Stevens
We are Stefan Zirnbauer and Werner Kozlik, the founder of the company "Munich Repair Shop" and together we have repaired and modified many instruments. Also we have been building guitars since 1992 under the brand „STEVENS“. We specialized in building custom acoustic guitars, irish bouzoukis, electric guitars, ukuleles and basically any guitar that you could imagine.
Some years later we started our own store, the „Munich Guitar Company“ which has now become one of the go-to places for any guitar repair work in Bavaria and also Germany. And if that wasn’t enough, we are also selling a great selection of guitars ranging from well set up beginner guitars to excellent boutique instruments.
Now I start a new era in 2026 with my new company "Stevens Irish Bouzoukis".
Specalized in celtic stringed instruments.

Bouzouki History
The story of the Irish bouzouki begins in the 1960s, when Irish musicians traveled to Southeast Europe and encountered the Greek bouzouki. Fascinated by the musical possibilities of this instrument, they adapted it to the needs of Irish folk music: the round body was flattened, and the tuning was changed. The strings of the Greek bouzouki, tuned to C, F, A, and D, became the GDAD or ADAD tuning of the Irish bouzouki. The pure fifths tuning, GDAE, is also common.
Stevens Guitars in Munich produced bouzoukis and octave mandolins developed in collaboration with Andy Irvine.
Features: A striking feature of Stevens bouzoukis is the string attachment to the soundboard, similar to a western guitar, as well as the X-bracing, which is also used on their guitars.
